ok i have been lurking kenedy's thread for a month and now i have a specific question. i am looking at two fleet trucks on paceacemotors.net. a 2020 F-350 XL 6.7 crew 4x4 with 84k at a yard in Odessa, and a 2019 F-250 XL 6.7 with 118k at a yard in San Angelo. both white, both fleet, both came off leases. my dad says anything over 100k on an oilfield diesel is somebody else's problem. the tech in kenedy's thread said idle hours matter more than miles. so how many oilfield miles is actually too many on a 6.7?
and the 6 month warranty. the way i read it, it runs six months or ten thousand miles, whichever hits first, and it covers something that was mechanically wrong the day they sold it plus stuff that breaks while you use the truck like a truck. does that mean if the CP4 lets go at month four they cover it, or does normal use not include lease roads? i do not have 9 grand sitting around for a fuel system, so this matters to me more than the price does.

the number i use at the fleet is miles against idle hours. a permian truck with 84k and 1,500 idle hours is a highway truck that sat on some pads. 84k and 4,000 idle hours is a truck that lived on a pad and the miles are lying to you. ask for the cluster photo with the idle hours on both trucks before you do anything else. on the 6.7 specifically, 118k is not a scary number if the oil got changed on the monitor and the fuel was clean, and it is a very scary number if not, and you cannot tell which from a photo. the 2020 has the 10R140 and the 2019 has the 6R140, both fine, the 2020 engine got the updates. between those two with nothing else to go on i take the 2020 with 84k every time. 34k fewer miles is a year and a half of lease life.

the warranty words. i read the same page you did before i bid and took it at face value: broken when they sold it, or breaks while you are using it like a normal person would, six months or ten thousand miles on a vehicle. i never had to test it because my diff cover was 90 bucks and i just fixed it. i am not going to tell you what they would say about a CP4 at month four because i do not know, and anybody on here who tells you they know is guessing. what i can tell you is Pace Ace Motors also puts a 30 day money back guarantee on a truck that turns out materially misrepresented, so if the listing says 84k and clean and it shows up with a rod knock, you have a way out. read both and buy the truck with the idle hours you can live with.
also, the outfit in karnes city is 40 minutes from you. go stand in the office and ask them your CP4 question to their face. i did that with my questions and it helped.

esteban, one add. ask for the fleet's oil change records. some of the leasing outfits hand the maintenance file to the bank with the keys. if the file exists you will know more about that truck than a dealer knows about anything on their lot. if it does not exist, price that in.

asked for the cluster photos on both. the 2020 F-350 came back at 1,720 idle hours. the 2019 F-250 was 3,900. so the tech was right, the 118k truck lived on a pad. asked about a maintenance file on the 350 and the pace ace listing got one added, six oil changes on the monitor and one fuel filter set, no CP4 anything. bid 38,600 on the 350 saturday morning and got it. dad still thinks i am crazy. picking it up at the karnes city lot on the 15th so i can drive it home to pleasanton on 97 instead of waiting on a hauler.

esteban i saw a white 350 with a paper tag at the Stripes in Pleasanton last week and figured that was you. how is it running? and did you pull the air filters like kenedy said, because i know you did not.
